Alston W. Purvis

Alston W. Purvis is an American graphic designer, artist, professor, and author known for his scholarly contributions to the history of graphic design and typography. He received his BFA in graphic design from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA from Yale University. Purvis has held various academic positions, notably as an associate professor and chairman of the department of Graphic Design at Boston University College of Fine Arts. He has authored numerous books on the history of posters, typefaces, and Dutch graphic design, often collaborating with Martijn F. Le Coultre.[1]
