Auke de Vries
author
Auke de Vries is a prominent Dutch sculptor and graphic artist born in Burgum, Friesland. He received his education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. While he initially worked as a painter and graphic designer, he transitioned to metal sculpture in the 1970s. His work is characterized by light, abstract constructions composed of geometric shapes—such as lines, cones, cubes, cylinders, and planes—designed to appear as if they are floating or integrated into the surrounding architecture. He has held teaching positions at both the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. His sculptures have been exhibited internationally in cities such as Paris, Barcelona, Manchester, Bangkok, Berlin, and Hannover.[1,2]
