Ayumi Yamazaki, also known by the pseudonym A-CHAN, is a Japanese photographer based in Tokyo. She began her career in the photography world at age 18, initially choosing photography as a solo activity after leaving a sports background. She attended Tokyo Kogeidai's photography department and worked as an assistant for photographer Masafumi Sato before becoming freelance. She gained recognition for her commercial work for magazines like 'H' and later spent a significant period (approximately 10 years) in New York, where she became a close collaborator of the renowned photographer Robert Frank. Her work is characterized by capturing everyday moments and 'scents of the past,' often featuring subtle, intimate subjects like street scenes, homes, and small daily objects.[1,2]
