Bertus Aafjes

Bertus Aafjes (born Lambertus Jacobus Johannes Aafjes) was a prominent Dutch poet and prose writer. He gained significant recognition during World War II for his resistance poetry published under various pseudonyms, most notably Jan Oranje. After the war, he became known for his lyrical style and diverse literary output, which included historical non-fiction, travelogues, and children's literature. In 1951, he moved to Hoensbroek, where he lived in a part of Kasteel Hoensbroek owned by the Staatsmijnen in Limburg. His work often explored themes of history, religion, and nature. He was noted for his ability to blend traditional poetic forms with contemporary sensibilities.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10]
