Camilla 'Ylla' Koffler (1911–1955) was a pioneering Hungarian-American photographer who became one of the most celebrated animal photographers of the 20th century. Born in Vienna to Hungarian parents, she moved to Paris in the early 1930s to study sculpture, but soon transitioned to photography. She became renowned for her intimate, empathetic portraits of animals in zoos and the wild, eventually traveling to Africa and India to capture wildlife in its natural habitat. Her unique style merged fine art with nature photography, earning her a reputation as the most proficient animal photographer of her era. Beyond her independent work, she was a significant contributor to children's literature, collaborating on numerous illustrated books that used her photography to tell poignant animal stories. She died tragically in a jeep accident in Bharatpur, India, in 1955.[1,2,3,4]
