Carleton E. Watkins (1829–1916) was a prominent American photographer of the 19th century, widely considered one of the most influential artists of his era. Born in New York, he moved to California and became famous for his large-scale photographs of the Western landscape, including Yosemite Valley and Mammoth Hot Springs. His work played a significant role in promoting the American West to audiences on the East Coast.[1,2,3,4]
