Chas Gerretsen

Chas Gerretsen is a Dutch-born war photographer, photojournalist, and film advertising photographer. Born in Groningen in 1943, he immigrated to the United States in 1963. He spent several years as a freelance photojournalist and cameraman covering conflicts in Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos) between 1967 and 1972. Following this, he traveled to South America (1973–1975), where he documented the events of the Chilean coup. In 1975, he returned to the U.S. and began a significant career in Hollywood as a special photographer for major motion pictures, including 'Apocalypse Now'. He is the only Dutch photographer to have received the Robert Capa Gold Medal Award for exceptional courage in photojournalism.[1,2,3,4]
