Cornell Capa
photographer
Cornell Capa (1918–2008) was a Hungarian-American photographer and photojournalist known for his humanistic approach to documentary photography. Born Kornél Friedmann in Budapest, he moved to Paris in 1936 to join his brother, Robert Capa. He worked as a printer for his brother before moving to New York in 1938, where he joined the Pix agency and later became a staff photographer for LIFE magazine (1946–1967). A member of Magnum Photos starting in 1954, Capa served as its president from 1956 to 1960. He coined the term 'concerned photographer' to describe those who use photography with a humanitarian impulse to educate and change the world. He was also a visionary curator and founded the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York.[1,2]
