David Paul Bayles

David Paul Bayles is an American photographer, author, and conservationist known for his environmental-themed photography. His work often explores the complex relationship between humans and forests, specifically focusing on landscapes where human pursuits and forest needs collide or coexist. He began his career as a logger in the Sierra Nevada mountains before attending photography school in Santa Barbara. Bayles has studied with masters such as Ansel Adams and Brett Weston. His photographs have been published in numerous magazines including Orion, Nature, and Audubon, and are held in public collections at institutions like the Portland Art Museum and The Harry Ransom Center.
