Donald Richie
author
Donald Richie was a prominent American author, journalist, and film historian who became one of the world's foremost experts on Japanese cinema and culture. Arriving in Japan with the U.S. occupation forces in 1947, he spent decades living in Tokyo, where he wrote extensively for The Japan Times and published numerous books on filmmakers like Yasujirō Ozu and Akira Kurosawa. He was a pioneer in introducing Japanese film to Western audiences, serving as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art and contributing to various international film festivals. His work is characterized by a deep cultural sensitivity and an exploration of the 'presentational' nature of Japanese aesthetics.[5,6]
