G.J. Speekhout
author
G.J. Speekhout (full forename not established) was a Dutch amateur photographer and editor active in Dutch photography circles from the late 1930s through the 1940s. Search-result summaries of a Leiden University photography-history resource describe him as a board member of the amateur association HAFV, as a personal friend of photographer Staal through whom he came to photography, and as a regular contributor of photographs to the magazine Focus. The same summaries state that he was the first editor of the Nederlandsch Jaarboek voor Fotokunst, later editor-in-chief of Kleinbeeld-foto, and that in 1939 he shared first prize with Staal, Mersel and Bijlstra in the HAFV competition 'Deuren en Vensters'. Bookseller catalogues credit him as editor (redactie) of the Nederlandsch Jaarboek voor Fotokunst volumes 1942/3, 1943-'44 and 1944-'46, published by Smit in Hengelo. Birth and death dates, birthplace and nationality could not be verified and are left null. The cited Leiden page returned HTTP 404 when fetched, so the biographical claims rest on search snippets only and should be treated as secondary at best.[4]
