Hans Andreus is the pen name of Johan Wilhelm van der Zant (Amsterdam, 21 February 1926 – Putten, 9 June 1977), a Dutch poet who also wrote prose, radio plays and children's books. He began writing poems in 1939, left school in 1940, and debuted in November 1947 with a sonnet in the journal Centaur. In 1947 he worked briefly as a proofreader for the Volkskrant and then decided to make writing his profession. His first collection, Muziek voor Kijkdieren, appeared in 1951 in the De Windroos series. He is associated with the Vijftigers, the experimental generation of the 1950s that included Lucebert, Bert Schierbeek and Remco Campert. His sonnet collection De sonnetten van de kleine waanzin (1957) brought him wide recognition. He won the Amsterdam Poetry Prize in 1955 and 1963 and the Jan Campert Prize in 1970. In 1960 he wrote the text for the commemorative book 125 jaar, issued for the Ter Horst jute company in Rijssen. Biographer Jan van der Vegt published a biography in 1995.[1,2,3]
