author
Heinrich Tappenbeck (1834–1904) was a German textile merchant who significantly influenced the development of Noordwijk aan Zee as a seaside resort. In 1887, he purchased the Badhotel Huis ter Duin and six hectares of surrounding land from the municipality of Noordwijk. Under his ownership, the hotel became an international destination, particularly popular with high-level guests, including members of the House of Orange and the Belgian royal family. Tappenbeck was also interested in bulb cultivation and worked to improve the accessibility of the area via steam tram connections from major cities like Amsterdam and Leiden. His tenure established Huis ter Duin as a prominent landmark in Dutch tourism history.[4,5,6]
