Jan Dirk van der Burg

author · photographer

Jan Dirk van der Burg is a Dutch photographer and author based in Amsterdam. He graduated in 2004 with a series on office culture and has since developed a niche in documenting public spaces, meetings, and courses—the world under the system ceiling. His most notable work is the photography book 'Olifantenpaadjes' (Desire Lines), published in 2011, which serves as an optimistic critique of landscape mismanagement by highlighting how people create shortcuts in public environments. He has also worked with Marcel van Roosmalen on the series 'Nederland onder het Systeemplafond' for De Correspondent and produces a weekly image column called '#heerlijkgenieten' for Volkskrant Magazine. He is known as 'Pandist,' a nickname for conscious Fiat Panda drivers.[1,2]
