Karl Heinz Hargesheimer (1924–1972), known by the pseudonym Chargesheimer, was a German photographer who studied graphic arts and photography at the Kölner Werkschulen after World War II. He became known for his critical visual assessment of urban development in Germany, particularly in Cologne. His work often featured sharp portraits of public figures and intimate reports on landscapes and theater. He is noted for his 'melancholic farewell' to Cologne in his final book, 'Köln 5 Uhr 30', which captured the city as a skeletal structure of steel and concrete at dawn. Beyond photography, he experimented with abstract light structures and created kinetic sculptures called 'Meditationsmühlen'. His work was recognized with several awards, including the Karl Ernst Osthaus-Preis in 1970.[1,2,3]
