Ladislav (Laco) Novomeský (1904–1976) was a prominent Slovak poet, writer, journalist, and communist politician. Born in Budapest, he moved to Slovakia in 1919. He began his journalistic career in 1925, working as an editor for various newspapers and journals. During World War II, he joined the resistance movement. After the war, he held several significant positions, including vice-president of the Slovak National Council and head of Matica slovenská. In 1950, he was stripped of his functions and imprisoned in 1951 for a decade due to political reasons; he was later rehabilitated. He is remembered as a modern poet whose work often reflected social themes.[1,2]
