Lood van Bennekom

Lodewijk Hendrik (Lood) van Bennekom was a prominent Dutch photographer who became a pioneer of fashion photography in the Netherlands during the 1950s. He began his career in Paris in the late 1920s, where he worked as an assistant to the American photographer Berenice Abbott and assisted with the preservation of Eugène Atget's archive. After returning to the Netherlands, he worked in corporate photography for companies like Philips and Bernard van Leer before specializing in fashion and advertising. He was known for his technical expertise, particularly in lighting and developing techniques, and collaborated extensively with designers such as Peter Voorn and Hubert de Givenchy. His work is characterized by a modern aesthetic influenced by 'New Photography'. He died in Amsterdam in 1978.[1,2]
