Lydia Winkel

Lydia Winkel (1913–1964) was a Dutch historian and journalist known for her extensive work on the underground press during World War II. She was a close collaborator of Lou de Jong at the Rijksinstituut voor Oorlogsdocumentatie (NIOD). During the occupation, she was active in the resistance and worked for the illegal newspaper Vrij Nederland. She is best known for compiling 'De ondergrondse pers 1940-1945', a comprehensive overview of clandestine publications in the Netherlands during the war. She died in a car accident in France in 1964 while traveling to an international culinary conference.[1,3,4]
