Magnus Weidemann
author · photographer
Magnus Weidemann (1880–1967) was a German painter, photographer, and writer who became a prominent figure in the German 'Freikörperkultur' (free body culture) movement. Originally trained as a theologian, he abandoned his pastoral career after World War I to pursue art full-time. He is particularly noted for his artistic exploration of the human nude, which gained significant public attention through publications by Verlag der Schönheit in Dresden during the 1920s. Weidemann was an advocate for life reform and aestheticism, often blending these ideals with a deep appreciation for nature, especially the landscapes of the island of Sylt. His work spans oil paintings, watercolors, sketches, and photography, with his photographic works frequently focusing on nudes in natural settings.[1,2]
