Marcel van der Vlugt (b. 1957, Naaldwijk) is a Dutch photographer who grew up above his father's photo studio. He graduated in photography from the Hague MTS in 1978 with a series of coastal landscapes, then moved to Düsseldorf to assist the commercial photographer Manfred Vogelsänger. He has worked as a freelance photographer since 1982. He is best known for his Polaroid work, and he worked exclusively in Polaroid material from 1986 until 2008. He now works mainly digitally. His personal and commercial images are often sensual and poetic, and his recurring theme is beauty, treated both metaphorically and literally. His books include Beauty and Other Secrets (2007), A New Day (d'Jonge Hond, 2007/2008) and Rejects (2008), and later Buds (Lecturis, 2014). His work is held in the collections of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Awards include a Cannes Lions Gold (1997) and the SAPPI award for best printed book in Europe (2008). He lives in Noordwijk.[1,2,3]
