Max Schweidler

Max Schweidler was a prominent German art restorer based in Berlin. He is best known for his technical manual, 'Die Instandsetzung von Kupferstichen, Zeichnungen, Buchern usw.' (The Restoration of Engravings, Drawings, Books, etc.), first published in 1938. In this work, Schweidler formulated and theorized a set of principles and specific techniques for the conservation of paper-based items. His expertise was highly regarded in the field of print and paper conservation. He was an active restorer alongside his brother, Carl Schweidler, until they eventually went their separate ways. Schweidler passed away in 1953 in Stuttgart.[1,2,3]
