He was a student of the Royal College of Art and later became a respected teacher at institutions such as the Central School of Art and the Imperial College. His artistic interests were broad, ranging from mass tourism and industrial landscapes to UFOs and the paranormal. He was a collector of airplanes, space ships, and tin toys, a passion that culminated in his 1978 photographic book 'Tin Toys 1945-1975'.
