Paul Auster
author
Paul Benjamin Auster was a prominent American writer, novelist, memoirist, poet, and filmmaker. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he graduated from Columbia University with degrees in English and Comparative Literature before moving to Paris to work as a translator of French literature. He gained significant acclaim for his debut memoir 'The Invention of Solitude' (1982) and the postmodern novel 'The New York Trilogy' (1987). His works often explore themes of identity, space, language, and coincidence, frequently utilizing detective-like structures to address existential questions. Auster was also a filmmaker and screenwriter, notably collaborating on the film 'Smoke'. He died in 2024 at the age of 77.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]
