Ramón Masats Tartera (1931–2024) was a prominent Spanish photographer and filmmaker. He began his career as a photojournalist in 1953, working in Barcelona before moving to Madrid in 1957. Masats became a pivotal figure in the evolution of documentary photography in Spain during the 20th century, known for his instinctive yet severe and decisive compositions. His work often captured social issues and cultural memories, including his landmark photo essay on the San Fermín festivities in Pamplona (begun in 1955). He was a member of several influential photographic groups, such as AFAL. Beyond photography, he was also an accomplished filmmaker, winning awards at the Taormina Film Fest for his documentary work.[1,2,3,4]
