Reyner Banham

Reyner Banham (1922–1988) was a prominent British architectural critic and historian. He was best known for his theoretical treatise 'Theory and Design in the First Machine Age' (1960) and his 1971 book 'Los Angeles: The Architecture of Four Ecologies'. Banham was a significant voice in the documentation of New Brutalism and high-tech architecture, frequently writing for the 'Architectural Review'. He was an advocate for the connection between architectural modernism and avant-garde artistic movements. A prolific journalist, he relocated to the United States in 1976, where he taught at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University until his death in 1988.[1,2,3]
