Robert Parris Moses

Robert Parris Moses (1935–2021) was a prominent American civil rights activist, educator, and community organizer who spent his life advocating for racial equality and educational reform. Born in Harlem, New York, Moses was a key figure in the civil rights movement, notably serving as a field secretary for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) during the early 1960s. He was instrumental in organizing voter registration drives for Black citizens in Mississippi, a pivotal moment in the fight for voting rights. Beyond his grassroots activism, Moses was a dedicated educator who later founded the Algebra Project to improve mathematics education in underserved schools. He is remembered for his principled leadership and his commitment to grassroots community organizing and educational advocacy.
