Serge Lifar

author

Serge Lifar (1905–1986) was a prominent Ukrainian-born French dancer, choreographer, and ballet master. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest European dancers of his generation. After discovering dance in 1920, he became a student of Bronislava Nijinska before joining Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Lifar later served as a ballet master at the Paris Opera Ballet (1929–45, 1947–58), where he significantly enriched the repertoire and enhanced the status of male dancers. He was also a noted historian and theoretician of dance, known for training many notable étoiles using Vaganova techniques.[1,2,3]
