Siegfried Emanuel van Praag (1899–2002) was a prolific Dutch writer and novelist. Born in Amsterdam to a Jewish diamond merchant, he studied French language and literature at the University of Amsterdam before becoming a teacher of French. He published his first novel in 1925 and went on to write more than sixty books, many of which explored themes of Jewish life, history, and culture. During World War II, he fled to London with his wife, Hilda Sanders, where he worked for the radio. After the war, he returned to the Netherlands, teaching at various schools and continuing his literary career until the late 1980s. He was a recipient of the Meiprijs in 1932.[1,2]
