Theodoor van Reijn
author
Theo van Reijn (1884–1954) was a Dutch sculptor and author who significantly contributed to the documentation of 20th-century sculpture in the Netherlands. Born in Breda, he received his formal training in 1905 at the Rijksacademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, where he studied under notable figures such as Bart van Hove. His artistic practice was characterized by his involvement with the Amsterdam School, with pieces executed in materials such as bronze and Saxon granite. Beyond his creative output, he is recognized for his scholarly work, notably the 1949 publication 'Nederlandse Beeldhouwers van deze tijd.' This work provides a comprehensive overview of approximately 60 contemporary Dutch sculptors of the period. His dual role as both a practitioner of the craft and a historian of its contemporary state makes him a central figure in the study of Dutch modern sculpture.[1,2,3,4,5]
