Yuichi Jibiki
photographer
Yuichi Jibiki is a Japanese photographer who became deeply involved in the Japanese punk and indie rock scenes during their formative years in the late 1970s. He began documenting the scene in 1978 after discovering bands like Kurenai (later Lizard) through the underground mini-magazine 'Rockin Doll'. Jibiki is noted for his intimate involvement with the movement, serving not only as a photographer but also as a manager and organizer for various bands. His work captures the raw energy of performances at venues like S-KEN Studio in Roppongi, documenting iconic figures of the Tokyo Rockers scene including Friction, Lizard, and others. His photography is characterized by its ability to capture both the intense atmosphere of live performances and intimate portraits of musicians during a pivotal era of Japanese music history.[1,3]
