€7.00
Fina Torres photographed the streets of Santiago, after the military coup in Chile sept. 1973. She also photographed the funeral procession of the poet Pablo Neruda, who died sept. 23, and his house in Santiago, which had been violated by supporters of the government board. Cited on p.102 of The Latin American Photobook by Horacio Fernandez.
"In an atmosphere of tension and collective mourning, and despite the measures of repression and intimidation, a large crowd accompanied the remains of Pablo Neruda to the General Cemetery. Once at the cemetery are heard shouting defiant tribute to him and Salvador Allende. The poet was temporarily buried in the mausoleum of the Dittborn family. His funeral was the first act of resistance and civil opposition to the military coup." (Darío Oses, Director of the Library of the Pablo Neruda Foundation)
