Already well exhibited internationally with work in important collections, Fontana presents his first book - photos of his home town Modena. Well composed almost abstract images of the streets and architecture (cathedral, palace, canal] of the town are softly focused, painterly, restrained, in mediterranean colours of ochre, burnt umber, terracotta, pink, pale blue. unlike his later more vibrant work.
Modena Una Citta is a first edition photography book published in 1973 by Singraf Industrie. The work features photographs by Franco Fontana, who presents his home town of Modena through well-composed, almost abstract images of its streets and architecture, including the cathedral, palace, and canal. The images are described as softly focused and painterly, utilizing a Mediterranean color palette of ochre, burnt umber, terracotta, pink, and pale blue. Accompanying the visual content is text and captions by Pier Paolo Preti, provided in both Italian and English (and sometimes noted as including Modenese dialect). The book is a hardcover volume consisting of approximately 80 pages.
