For several years Nancy Burson has photographed children with craniofacial disorders. She uses a plastic Diana camera, which imparts an “ethereal and almost spiritual quality” to her subjects. These camera-shy children and the artist have begun to see themselves and each other differently through this ongoing photographic experience, and in the process have perhaps understood better than most of us what beauty must be in order that our dreams and dignity may survive. 45 b&w gravure plates, 72 pages.
