Blue Notes From Thin Air
A Dutch publication by Nicole Carstens featuring artistic and musical themes.
Blue Notes from Thin Air is a series of photographs captured by artist Nicole Carstens during her tenure as a flight attendant. The project serves as a registration of existing situations, stripping away the glamour often associated with the profession to reveal a heavy existence estranged from its context. By unveiling the banality of her job, Carstens acts as a voyeur of her own life, exploring the fusion of space and time, jetlag, and the human body's experience of these conditions. The work was first shown in 1998 at The Bronwyn Keenan Gallery in New York before being exhibited in Rotterdam in 2001.
