BILDERREISE . travelling beyond

A sequence of 65 photographs tracing an international itinerary that commences on the west coast of Sweden and concludes in the outer districts of Cairo. Austrian photographer Nikolaus Korab uses a moving camera to render the spatial dimension of his surroundings tangible, stepping away from strictly conventional documentary modes. The compositions concentrate on subtle, observed details within landscapes and settings, registering either physical human presence or the residual traces and markers denoting absence. The bilingual volume includes a textual contribution by Austrian author Barbara Frischmuth.
