Monograph on the Dutch reportage photographer Oscar van Alphen, with a text by Frits Gierstberg in Dutch and English, tracing his work and political engagement from the late 1950s.
A survey of the Dutch photographer Oscar van Alphen, whose reportage photography centred on people and on political engagement. The book follows his work from the late 1950s onward, including his 1960s activity and his 1982 publication on Palestinian matters. It draws on his personal and photographic archives, publications, critiques and reviews, and presents his development as a self-taught photographer who questioned whether photography can represent reality. Frits Gierstberg supplies the text, in Dutch and English. Black-and-white and colour photographs are reproduced throughout. It is number 14 in the series Monographs on Dutch Photographers (Monografieën van Nederlandse fotografen).
