Paul Strand Circa 1916

This book focuses on the dramatic achievements of Paul Strand's early career, which have not until now been studied apart from his entire oeuvre. Spurred by the examples of Cézanne, Picasso, and Nietzsche, Strand pushed the boundaries of photography as an art form. The publication accompanies an exhibition held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (March–May 1998) and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (June–September 1998). It features over 93 photographs, including 58 tritone plates and 35 duatone prints. The work is presented as a small folio bound in the publisher's original white cloth with gray lettering on the spine.
