Shinoyama has been taking photographs like this since the 1960′s and has been one of the foremost photographers in Japan over the last 40 years influencing an entire generation of artists as well as popularizing a style of photography that he calls gekisha (meaning ‘hard shot’). He is also an exponent of solarization and has used it to challenge preconceived ideas of beauty and the nude.
