Colour photographs of figures in forests and graveyards, made with self-built lenses as a modern take on the medieval memento mori. Limited to 500 copies.
The photographs were made in dense forests and old graveyards, where figures that look drawn from the Middle Ages or from futuristic film sets move through strange, saturated landscapes. The title is German for All Souls and refers to souls waiting in purgatory for redemption. Binder describes the work as a modern interpretation of the medieval memento mori. He made the images with a digital camera fitted with self-made lenses. The result is a staged, conceptual body of work in colour, concerned with mortality and the afterlife. It is a single-photographer monograph by Alexander Binder. The softcover edition was limited to 500 copies, and a photo-eye review praises its production.
