Alec Soth

photographer

Alec Soth is an American photographer born and based in Minneapolis. He is known for his evocative, contemplative photography that often explores the margins of American life and human solitude. His work has been compared to poetry due to its lack of linear narrative and reliance on suggestion and omission. Soth gained significant recognition with his 2004 series 'Sleeping by the Mississippi' and has since published numerous monographs including 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci' (2011), which is inspired by the poetry of John Keats. He is a member of Magnum Photos and has received prestigious honors such as the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in 2011 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2013.[1,2]
