André Magnin
author
André Magnin is a French exhibition curator, art dealer, and historian of contemporary African art. Born in Vesoul in 1952, he spent his early childhood in Madagascar, which sparked his interest in Africa. He began his career in the late 1970s organizing musical and artistic events before becoming a key figure in the international promotion of African art. Magnin was tasked by collector Jean Pigozzi to build one of the world's most significant collections of contemporary African art, leading him to travel extensively across the continent. He has curated numerous major exhibitions for institutions such as the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. In 2009, he co-founded the gallery MAGNIN-A in Paris with Philippe Boutté, which focuses on promoting contemporary African art on the international market.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7]
