Malick Sidibé (1935–2016) was a renowned Malian photographer known as 'l'œil de Bamako' (the eye of Bamako). Born in the village of Soloba, he trained as a jewelry maker before establishing Studio Malick in 1962. He became a central figure in Bamako's cultural life during the 1960s and 1970s, capturing the vibrant popular culture, youth fashion, and social gatherings of the era. His black-and-white portraits are celebrated for their humanistic gaze and documentation of Mali's transition from colony to independent nation.[1,2,5,6]
