André Suarès (1868–1948) was a prominent French poet, literary critic, and music critic. Born in Marseille, he became one of the four 'pillars' of the Nouvelle Revue Française starting in 1912. A man of deep culture and intellect, Suarès is noted for his passionate and often complex relationship with his native city, which he explored extensively in his writings. His most famous poetic work regarding Marseille is 'Marsiho', an epic poem that captures the city's tumultuous soul through a lens of both love and disdain.
