Andrea Stultiens
author · photographer
Andrea Stultiens is a Dutch photographer, lecturer, and researcher born in Roermond in 1974. She studied music therapy before pursuing an education in photographic design at the Hogeschool van de Kunsten Utrecht (graduating in 1998) and later completed her second photography degree at Academie St. Joost in Breda in 2001. Her artistic practice often explores the relationship between humans and their immediate environments, identity, history, and community. She is known for integrating archival materials—such as historical photographs from village albums—with her own contemporary imagery to create a dialogue between past and present. Stultiens has worked on various projects including 'Nooit meer denken' (2001), which explored the university world, and 'Kerkdorp - Polderdorp' (2002), an autobiographical project about her birthplace Sint Odiliënberg. She is currently a lecturer at Minerva Art Academy in Groningen and has conducted research on African archives and historical photography.[1,2,3]
