Angèle Etoundi Essamba is a Cameroonian photographer who was educated in France and graduated from the Fotovakschool in Amsterdam. Her artistic practice focuses on reflecting upon the experiences and identity of the Black woman, aiming to dismantle stereotypical representations while elevating her subjects through an aesthetic that is simultaneously idealistic and societal. She explores themes of pride, strength, struggle, and resilience within the African diaspora. Her work has been exhibited internationally in museums, galleries, and biennials.
