Axel Hütte is a prominent German photographer known for his large-scale, coolly beautiful photographs of urban and natural landscapes. He is a leading figure of the Düsseldorf School of Photography, having studied under the influential duo Bernd and Hilla Becher at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1973 to 1981. His work is characterized by a meticulous, clinical approach to image-making, often incorporating geometrically formulated compositions and a heightened consciousness of the picture plane. His practice explores the concept of 'soulscapes' and the relationship between nature and landscape, focusing on architectures, dunes, forests, and cityscapes.
