Barend Houtsmuller

author · photographer

Barend Houtsmuller (born 1953) is a Dutch photographer and artist known for his exploration of the human form, particularly the female nude, and his experiments with technology. After interrupting his studies at TU Delft, he explored photography as a pure art form in the United States and Venice, studying under notable figures like Ansel Adams and Duane Michals. Houtsmuller's work often fuses art with technology, and more recently, he has been exploring 'Promptography'—using AI to create images. He was a co-founder of Galerie & Magazine Perspektief (later Nederlands Foto instituut). His works are held in collections including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the International Polaroid Collection in Vienna, and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.[1,2]
