Ben van Meerendonk

photographer

Ben van Meerendonk (1913–2008) was a prominent Dutch photojournalist and the founder, owner, and director of the Algemeen Hollands Fotopersbureau (AHF), which operated from 1945 to 1969. He specialized in documenting daily life, the Royal House, and international celebrities during the post-war period. His work captured significant changes in the Netherlands throughout the 1950s and 1960s for major newspapers such as De Telegraaf, Het Parool, and Trouw. Despite his professional success, he was often criticized for neglecting his own artistic output in favor of administrative duties at AHF. His archives have been rediscovered and preserved by institutions like the International Institute of Social History (IISG).[1,2,3,4]
