Bernd Wartwig (1948–2010) was a German photographer and visual artist based in Cologne. He began his professional career as a commercial and industrial photographer in 1974, while simultaneously pursuing artistic photography and exhibitions. His education included a practical training in photography under Alfred Paulus in Stolberg (1971–1975), studies in Artistic Photography at the FH Köln, and studies in Psychology and Sociology at TH Aachen. Wartwig is noted for his work documenting artists and their environments, notably in the Euregio Maas-Rhein region. His book 'Im Atelier' (2006) features a trilingual presentation (German, French, Dutch) showcasing 37 prominent artists in their studios, capturing an intimate look at the relationship between the artist, their work, and their creative space.[1,2]
