Bert Teunissen

author · photographer

Bert Teunissen is a Dutch photographer born in Ruurlo in 1959. A self-taught artist who began his photographic journey in 1974 and built his own darkroom in 1976, Teunissen has gained international recognition for his documentary work. His long-term project 'Domestic Landscapes' was inspired by the demolition of his family home during his childhood. Over a decade, he documented hundreds of old European homes—built before the World Wars—capturing their unique architectural details and natural light in a style reminiscent of Dutch masters like Vermeer and Rembrandt. His work serves as an archive of disappearing cultural vestiges across Europe, including countries such as Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Great Britain, Spain, and Portugal.[1,2]
